چکیده

Time-reversal (TR) methods provide a simple and robust solution to source imaging problems. However, for recovering a well resolved image of the source, TR requires a balanced illumination of the target from all angles. When acquisition is incomplete and a balanced illumination is not possible, the TR solution may not be adequate. In a previous paper, by formulating source imaging as an optimization problem, we presented a method named Backus-Gilbert focusing (BG) to enhance the performance of TR in acoustic media despite incomplete acquisition. Here, we generalize the theory of BackusGilbert focusing for application in elastic media.

on the Elastic Stability of Sleeve Stiffened Hollow Columns; Focusing on Determination of Optimal Design Curves (TECHNICAL NOTE)

The stability analysis of sleeve stiffened pin-ended slender hollow columns of pipe or box section is performed in the present study. This is accomplished by using energy method, employing three terms in the assumed approximate deflection function. The lengthy and tedious algebraic manipulations involved in solving the relevant eigenvalue problem, necessitates employing the "MATHEMATICA" softwa...

Plane Wave Propagation Through a Planer Slab

An approximation technique is considered for computing transmission and reflection coefficients for propagation of an elastic pulse through a planar slab of finite width. The propagation of elastic pulse through a planar slab is derived from first principles using straightforward time-dependent method. The paper ends with calculations of enhancement factor for the elastic plane wave and it is s...

Existence of extraordinary zero-curvature slowness curve in anisotropic elastic media.

Acoustic wave propagation in elastic media is characterized by the slowness surface. The slowness surface consists of three sheets associated with three modes of wave propagation and the two outer sheets can have zero-curvature locally. It is shown that the outmost sheet can admit extraordinary zero-curvature and the slowness curve can appear as a straight line locally. Using the perturbation m...

Focusing of elastic waves for microseismic imaging

Microseismic events generate compressive waves and shear waves which can be recorded at receivers. We present a theory that shows how elastic P and S waves separately backpropagate to the original source location. These refocused P and S wavefields are free of singularities. We also demonstrate a technique that enhances the ability to image the spatial focus for each wave type using elastic wav...
